Mickey, the motor spins an off-center flywheel, creating vibration.
It vibrates a lot!!! it's loud as heck, would wake the dead.
The angle is adjustable, and is dependant on the material being screened. Too much of an angle and some good unsifted stuff goes off the "waterfall" with the coarser spoils, not enough angle and it would just sit like a blob, I suppose, or, it would take a long time to sift itself out.
In my mind, it needs to shake the stuff down and out before you get back with the next FEL bucket full, in order to get good production.
