Default What's Up With TYM???

Visited the new (~2 year old) TYM and Montana tractor dealership in Springfield, MA yesterday. TYM manufactured my 2004 Mahindra 4110 and I like the machine a lot. If/when the time comes that Mahindra ends it's relationship with TYM, I would not hesitate to buy a TYM brand machine if I ever needed a replacement or could use a second similar tractor.

Unfortunately, my local TYM dealer has not been doing too well lately and only had one small TYM machine on his lot when I visited him last week on a parts issue. For reasons I have never fully understood, this particular dealer has never really thrived with any brand of machine... and I had counted on the apparently healthier Springfield TYM dealer to be there if/when I needed replacement parts, upgrades or a brand new machine.

Turns out that the seemingly healthier TYM dealer in Springfield only had one smallish TYM tractor on his lot as well. He also had one small Montana. Given the time of year and the quantity of other-branded machines I am seeing on every other tractor dealer's lot, I was shocked. Is something going on with TYM that I don't know about? I'd be interested to hear from others who live near TYM dealerships. Is this lack of new, pre-positioned, springtime product a local phenomena? Or is TYM not quite making it in the good ol' US of A???

My guess is they aren't doing well in this market. I got a buddy selling Montanas less then a mile from my house. He probably has about 12-15 on his lot now and i doubt he has sold over three in the last year. Unless they discount them really heavy i see no need to buy one unless it is thousands of dollars cheaper then a Kubota/John Deere equivalent. I know i might give $2000.00 more for a small JD at the most but it will be worth so much more 5 years down the road...plus the korean tractors seem rough in comparison from the reviews i read. They are heavy yes, but not near as nice is the word i hear. Buck at efc construction used to sell them but i read on a site that he quit because of to many quality issues with them. You can ask him about them here if you want. i see he is selling Mahindras now. HOME

Thanks very much for the info! I believe I've seen Buck posting over at another tractor forum. It's interesting that he would drop TYM for quality problems... and then start selling Mahindras which include some TYM-made machines! But such is life. Guess it all depends on what the particular issues were (and on which models) and whether or not Mahindra-USA happens to handle those issues better.

I looked at TYM when I was tractor shopping last year. I really liked the specs on the 273, but I didn't like the one I saw at the dealership. But being that there aren't many dealers around, I still wanted to another one. Never did get around to it, but I did email Buck about TYM because he had dropped TYM. Now I know why he dropped them,

He dropped them, not because of a poor designed tractor, but because there was no factory support and it was costing him. Basically the 5 year warranty that TYM's offered was worthless so he was paying for it out of his pocket.

As for TYMs, I don't know what's going on, but I think they might be going under. I say this because of what I'm seeing. Like you, the TYMs dealers I've seen have few tractors or have old stock. The domain tym-america dot com is available for sale on register dot com, tym-usa dot com says they are getting an hardware upgrade and tym-online dot com gives a server not found error.

Now you tell me why a company would drop 2 of their domain names, when they could have just forwarded them to whatever other domain they wanted and why they have brought their other site down if they are moving servers??? The smart thing would have been to leave he old up and when they had everything ready on the new server, just to update the DNS to the new server.

Basically, I'm saying TYM looks like a company in financial trouble. If they're not, they will be soon based on how they operate their own web presence.

I sincerely doubt that the South Korean parent company is in financial trouble. I do suspect mismanagement and/or financial trouble by one or both of the US importers. Something is going on... and it is too bad because I think TYM makes a fine machine.

If i remember correctly i believe a big selling point of the TYMs is the fact that some models had John Deere motors and some models had Kubota motors.

Not sure about the John Deere thing... but yes; the models I was looking at all had Kubota engines.

Very interesting...there is apparently no access available for the dealers as well...

I would have to assume that TYM-America is going the way of Farmtrac...

Just another reason to stay with the big boys...

Official word from the parent company is that the USA website(s) are down for "upgrading"!

Sounds like the whole TYM US operation needs some upgrading.
