If you took the diesel involved in the splitting and put it in your oil tank, you probably would be covered for the winter...

I used to own an ant farm but had to give it up. I couldn't find tractors small enough to fit it.

Don't be a killjoy Paul, it has a certain coolness factor that far outweighs the economy of it

Well, I for one think it's great! I'm not about to run out and buy one 'cause I'm dirt poor and near broke right now... but if I already had an old log splitter... and if the old Edster would give me temporary access to his "scrap" steel pile... I'd be highly inclined to make up a mount for the ULDM.

It seems extremely slow a process... it must be way quicker to have a unit that cuts it and spits it in one swop...and a conveyor to put it in a pile or on a dump cart...

One looking for a unique log splitter might take a look at the Stickler log splitter. Mounts to the drive axle of a vehicle and is a large tapered helix and will screw itself into a log by just pushing the log into the point. Don't know if they are still in business. The original mfgr was a Co in central Oregon about 25 yrs ago.

Looks like there is one for sale on craigslist in the Buffalo area for $20.
