Default Nice ole double

I was at the Cabelas in Pa recently, looking at all the guns in their gun library. You can get stuck in there for hours just staring at the workmanship on some of their selections. Well sittin kinda starry-eyed in the back corner of one of the cases sat this little double barrel. It looked kinda tired, worn and a bit out of place amongst some of the other high-brow items in there.
I asked the salesman to pull it out, and kinda frowning he did. He mentioned that this was broke, and that was worn and the finish was barely discernable. When I got her in my hands, she felt familiar, pulled up to the shoulder as if it had been a life-long habit, and I knew she was coming home. Turns out this little gal is a Fox Sterlingworth 20 ga double. I'm in the process of gently restoring her to the condition she should have been in all these years, the it's off to the Trap range for hours of fun. It's always neat to find something unexpected, and have it get better from there!

Sounds like a nice catch - was it a trade in? I didnt know cabelas handles older models - 20 guage is a nice light guage, I learned on that size guage when I was maybe 11 or so. I know Fox's growing up, my dad had a few. very nice indeed

In the area of shotguns, I've always been fond of side by side doubles. I have my dad's old double, a side by side double 20ga Ranger purchase from Sears in late 30's. He had it reblued about 30 yrs ago and still looking nice

The fox was traded to them, but they didn't think much of it (go figure) and kinda hid it in a corner. I even dickered abit and got and extra 10% off.
I love ole doubles, I've kept both my fathers Ithaca Flues model, and my Grandfathers Parker underlifter. I have a real appreciation for these old guns, and these two in particular make feel closer to Dad and Grandpop.

Our dads had the exact same taste - those names were part of his collection indeed
