    Default selecting tech

There are alot of good threads on here.
    Most are the usual stuff.
I guess i am a novice computor user.
Anyway after three years of acceptable performance my PC is in need of a good going thru.
It has a socket 775 mother board - 2.66mhz cpu - XP operating system.
Never had a real good backup to fall back on - did not come with an operating system disc at all.
Does everything i have wanted to do exept link to my entertainment system.
Anyway it is needing a good refreshing and correct some problems.
How do you determin if you are hiring a tech that can get the job done?
I know how to look several trades over to see if i think they know what they are doing.
    But not this one.
Found a place in Crossville KISPC Home
I think i may hire them. Odd they do not have E-mail. They look to be in a higher rent area. Does not list rates for in shop services.
Anyway any information will probably help me.

Hey Dog! Too bad you don't live anywhere near Dougsterville. I'd take care of what you needed for free (or maybe for a modest $$$ Starbucks gift card)!

First off, stay away from the Big Boys (Big Names=Pizz Poor Results) and Big-$$$ rip-off artists. You'll know them... all talk trying to impress you with how ultra-smart they are and you ain't. Instead, find a nice local guy who has been around a while with a small shop and a GREAT reputation (not just good, GREAT!). Check Craigslist and your local paper or just ask your friends and neighbors to find such folks and then talk with him/them on the phone and, if so-far-so good, go meet him or them in person. Make sure you like him (or her - no flaming azzh*les!!!) , make sure he/she/it answers your questions fully and so that you understand them... and make sure his/her/its pricing is clear and fair (fixed price, if possible - or at least ask him/her to keep in touch so that there are no eventual surprises). Seems that the best results for the least money are from these kinds of folks. If possible, try to get a guarantee like I give out: If you are not completely satisfied for any reason... no charge!

p.s., Let me know if I can be of any assistance! -d

You might want to delete your porn and NAMBLA membership before you bring it anywhere.

I don't always practice what I preach but making sure there is no misunderstanding, one might want to take a little time and write a few things down so everyone is on same page.

What is your current usage for the computer, what kind of apps and whether heavy or little used. Any plans in near future for any new uses, hardware, peripheral changes/up-grades.

What is computer either doing or not doing that is causing you to see help.

Having stuff like this written down insures you both are on the same page and what you are expecting from the service, either physically or in recommendations.
Practice makes perfect: After many decade of hard work and practice, it now takes almost no effort to get tired.
