Question Doug, I ned some help

Recently swapped out the mouse on my desktop machine (HP/XP) with another mouse I've had for yrs (Logitech). Same functionality as the old OEM mouse. Since the swap I've noticed a new action that I've not seen before even when this mouse was used on an older machine.

When I click on a link, if the pointer is over a word the search window pops us in addition to the link doing as it should. Looked at settings/mouse and don't see a setting that would either turn on/off the search function.

    Got any ideas?

How about removing then re-installing the mouse.

GM, didn't do any install when I swapped out the mouse. Both old and this mouse are using stock PS2 mouse driver.

I highly doubt it is related to merely swapping out functionally equivalent mice! That is something software-based.

Usually, the sudden appearance of a new function like that is related to a 3rd party toolbar or browser plug-in or update to same.

What browser (or other software) are you using when you see this?

Think you are on to something Doug. I was thinking software that's way I checked the mouse settings but found nothing. This started happening right after a swapped out the mouse a couple weeks ago.

Use Opera as my default browser and don't recall any update on that recently. Because of your comment I went to my backup browser, FireFox and didn't see this action. Went back to Opera and now the search function isn't happening there either.

Now is this REALLY gone or just a temp change in operation??? Might be the TV repairman syndrome, set acting up until repairman called. We'll have to see.

    UPDATE
About an hr later and search action is back.
