Default Transaxle oil..

Hey guys! Just a little update for those who recall my going against Cub's Drive System Fluid Plus only recommendation for the transaxles on the 2 and 3K series machines; I've run my 2544 several times now with ambient temperatures in the 30-40°F range. No undue noises, performance, etc with the Shell Rotella-T, 15w-40 in there. $9/qt for the Cub stuff, or $7-10/gal for the Shell. It's a no brainer for a dummy like me! For reference, here's what I used in place of Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus: http://www.shellusserver.com/CJ4/landing.php

This is really good info - and the oil in the garden tractors is the same in their 5000 series sub-compacts. Dont know if its used on the Yanmar/Cub effort (probably Hy-guard just like my Yanmar/Deere), but its good to hear updates in real world conditions and "valid alternatives" to the Cub synthetic blend oil. Worthy of a sticky for sure ! thanks Joel

Tried post to this thread last night but had problems.

You can add me to the list of folks that would like to find a good sub for the high priced juice Cub recommends. The real proof in the pudding so to speak is after a considerable time period.

Sure would like to know what it is with the Cub system than normal hyd fluid won't work. Have never sean an answer to this question. I would also like to know why change intervals are shorter after the initial break-in period. Doesn't make sence to me.

Pockets, do keep us informed as to how the fluid performs over time.

When Joel or (Buckwheat )- gets back on he investigated and found a material safety data sheet, or a generic spec sheet on the oil that cub uses made by Shell - he didnt just take the plunge on this, we both languished over it for a while....I will do the same on the next change
