Talking New Project

Well JD and I got started on a new project today. Gonna have a 14x26 shed erected, and I have to excavate the site in prep for the concrete pad to be poured. Will also erect a short retaining wall, to match the existing. The site to be excavated is approx 20x40, and varies from 1ft to 4 1/2ft in depth. SWMBO couldn't resist snapping a couple of pics.

Have been thinking about building a new shop building. The current one built inside the impliment shed is just too small. MAybe some like 20x30 but could vary a little either way.

If you don't mind me asking, approx what kind of money is a shop the size you're doing cost for foundation and building?

My impliment shed is one Dad and I bult 30 yrs ago and think it cost us ~$2500 including the wiring.

Sure Mick...I'm having a 14x26 ft saltbox style shed made by some Amish craftsman. Because of it's size, and the cost involved in transporting it 150 miles, it will be constructed as a pre-fab, then erected on site.
The basic cost of the shed was $6000 before my special order items. That included an overhead door, entrance door, vinyl siding with aluminum trim.
The slab I'm pouring will be rated 4000lb/sq.in. with fiber blended in, and runs about $95/cu yard delivered.
The total of everything incl. the cost of them doing the final construction on site, and my customizations is running about $9000.
When I'm done, I think I'll have the equivilant of a stick built garage.
Duc...I've plans for a garage/shop that will be 40x60 when I get to building our retirement house in the future, it will include full off the grid solar capability.

Thanks for the price info. Need to see what prices are in this area. Still giving thought as to type of construction, all metal or convientional stick built building. With a stick built building I'd likely do most of it myself. Insulation is an issue I need to give thought on.

Hi,

Really sounds nice and that pricing is fantastic compared to here.

Was looking at doing a stick build, do it all yourself, that was 24X28 and it was $7500 - $8000.

Not quite sure I am going to get to it this year as had a bit of a setback recently.

Anyways, sounds great and congratulations.

Pic would be appreciated when done.

Have a great evening.

Tom

Well JD and I are progressing. The major excavation is done, and the new retaining wall (4' x 36') has been erected. This week I hope to form out the concrete pad and lay in the stone base.

It is over!! 10 yards of concrete and an aching back later I'm done! (Subject to all terms and conditions which may here-after and here-on be thought about or re-considered at any time, past or future by SWMBO!!)
