Default Repairing teeth on a BH/EX Bucket

Long story short...My wifes cousin has a small landscaping company, and he owns a JD 17d Mini-Excavator that I can borrow pretty much whenever I want it.

So last year, he called and said that the two outside teeth had fallen off, but they didn't replace them for a while. So he finally bought new teeth, but they would not stay on because the shanks where now worn to half their original size , he was griping to me that a new bucket was $800 or so...

So I said, "bring it over and let me see what I can do" worst case, I'd weld a plate on it and make "finishing" bucket out of it (he does alot of patio's and walkway's) for smoothing sand and CR6.

So after about 10 cutting disks, 2 new shanks, 4 teeth, and about 1 pound off MIG wire this was the result. One year later the teeth are still in place

And for those who think I put the teeth on backwards, here is a picture from JDParts. And that is how the old ones were on there...
This led to a huge fight on a welding forum when I posted these pictures, the one "expert" swore up and down that I did it wrong, and that I was a stupid amateur! He even said this picture was wrong

Oh, and Chris- This is the reason I do not have a backhoe for my tractor, because I can use this mini-ex whenever am I excused?

    Thumbs up

I have to say you do real nice work - its funny that someone questioned the mounting of the teeth. They dont get out much I suppose

I have to bring my stuff down to you to make it right again. I beat the heck out of my 61" bucket, I need a heavy duty unit, chain hooks, and a 2" trailer hitch....

Its surprising that your family member used the machine with basically no teeth. Its like using your gums only on a jawbreaker

Great job kenny. that was a really good work. and yes anyone that knows
anything knows the teeth are on right. yes i have done a bunch of them in my day. wait til you get to replace the ones on a JD 310E. excavator...
Yep its the size of a house and the teeth weigh 25 pounds each.....
    its really alot of fun....

the bucket is bigger than Duc's 550 ford......
it can load a tarex in three scoups.
that was the biggest i ever did.

the prep work take a hell of alot longer than just welding the teeth
    on thats for sure..
Keep them pictures comeing kenny. that was great.

    Chris....
