Deere Buys Half of China Equipment Maker

AP
Posted: 2008-02-29 09:45:24
MOLINE, Ill. (AP) - Lawn-care and farming equipment maker Deere & Co. said it agreed to buy 50 percent of a Chinese construction equipment maker, expanding its presence in what is the company's fastest growing market.

Deere did not disclose terms of its deal for Xuzhou Xuwa Excavator Machinery Co., which is a unit of Xuzhou Bohui Science and Technology Development Co.

The purchase requires approval from the Chinese government.

Actually, to Deere insiders, this is not new news. Last summer Deere purchased the largest tractor manufacturer in China . . . and . . . the scuttlebut is that Deere will introduce a line of Compact tractors, built in China, this fall. Deere has been getting a lot of pressure from the lines that are built in Korea, India, etc.

Cheers

That's because the needed to produce more JUNK and the PUNE, INDIA facility wasn't up to the task...

I used to own an ant farm but had to give it up. I couldn't find tractors small enough to fit it.

I agree with Emerich; whatever intended market this venture is going to serve, the quality will be acceptable within it.

Will it just be low-end CUTS? We'll just have to wait and see.

Cheers

I have to say , I do sell a generator that's made in china and it doesn't hold up like the others that I sell. It is less than half the price and I explain to my customers thats it's the low end generator and you get what you pay for. Its the only thing I sell that is from china.
I hope John Deere can pull this Off.

Kevin
