Happy turkey time ......................
All the best folks and don't overdo the turkey.
For all those Black Friday\Cyber Monday shoppers, make sure you get the best deals going.
If out and about, drive careful.
From all of mine to all of yours, best wishes.

Thanks to our fine Canadian neighbors and everyone of us who made it through another year without going nutty, crazy or broke!

Dougster,
You gotta tell me how it goes and how you did it re time, heat, etc.
Been wanting to try it but family afraid will blow up me and more importantly, them, so any tricks of the trade would be appreciated.
Have a good one
Tom
This is a first for me Tom, although my brother did one a few years back and I did learn a little from observing his efforts.
The formula for success is pretty standard and simple. It is so simple, in fact, that they have it stamped into the fryer's pot cover just in case you forget it. I kid you not!
It is not cheap, however. The cooking oil alone cost more than most large, premium fresh turkeys do. But after my experience last year roasting a turkey for the first time (fully documented in last Thanksgiving's superthread: Thanksgiving is coming, what's the plans? ), I decided to "punt" and take an easier, faster way out this year... even if it cost a lot more money and is infinitely more dangerous.
The real trick is to avoid burning down the house. If you can avoid that one nasty pitfall, the rest is actually quite easy!

I fry Turkey Breasts most years. The trick is to lower the bird into the hot oil slowly so as not to boil over the pot. after you get it completely in you just need to keep the temp constant and enjoy. My family loves fried turkey and will not eat it any other way now. You are right though the oil is expensive but if you strain it after using and put it in an air tight bottle you can use it for Christmas too. I also cook for some of the shut-ins in the area so that cuts down on the cost per meal.
Good luck and PLEASE have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
