    Default hydraulic pump Case 580K

Ok the pump (the one driven off the front of the crank shaft) on my Case 580K about 1992 model is leaking worse all the time. and i think it is getting weak.
    So my question is:
    > Try and rebuild here on a bench
    > Try to find a hydraulic shop and have it rebuilt
    > Just replace it. Costs about 900
I have no idea what the success rate is for rebuild, or if i can get it all back to spec working on a bench here.
Do not know where a hydraulic pump rebuild shop may be. and it will be down maybe weeks that way.
Seems to me i may be best served just replacing the unit, but cost is always a problem.

Someone just bought a new one for short money on eBay a few weeks back. You must have been sleeping Dog!!!

Not knowing exactly what is wrong and which parts would have to be replaced (which should be established first, if possible), my sense is that professional rebuilding of this pump is probably not going to be cheap... and I don't see many rebuilt pumps around. For such an extremely popular backhoe, this tells me something. If it were me, I'd swallow really hard and buy the new pump.

Go new because I bet the re-builds or used are 50% or more of new, with of course the unkown factor. At least new, you know where you stand

Rebuilding a pump is definitely NOT a DIY job. The tolerances and clearances are extremely tight, and you would need to know the specs so all the parts could be measured.

Look in the phone book under "hydraulics" and get a quote with warranty information-then take a decision from there.
