Points: 0 | The Mama vs. Papa Dilemma For the second lost job quote in a row (and the third time this season), the poor old Dougster™ seems to have been cursed by the "Mama vs. Papa" dilemma. That's where Papa calls you to come give a quote based on one scope of work ( typically well-suited to your advertised skills & capabilities)... but Mama is there when you go to actually give the quote ( with or without Papa being present) and Mama has very different ideas from what Papa told you! And almost always, what Mama wants done is not something that you do or can do competitively.
While I left laughing out loud from the last failed meeting (today) at how totally different Mama's ideas were from Papa's, I was crying a little inside and making a mental note to myself that I can never again go out to give a quote when the contacting party (Papa or Mama) is not going to be there. Further, if I get any hint at all that married partners are at great odds over the type of work to be done... I should just politely tell them to call me when the debate is over and they make up their minds.

My personal favorite is, spend all this time, quoting it, etc and then you get the dreaded "oh, let me talk to my wife/husband"
which really means "OMG, I can't believe it was going to be so much money"
If you can't make the decision on the money, why are you taking the quote?
drives me crazy.

Points: 0 | The value of the market is down over 12% You may also be experiencing GOOD CUSTOMER/BAD CUSTOMER routine...
They are looking for the requested project, that is the GOOD CUSTOMER, until they talk with each other and realize they CAN'T afford it at this time...so when you show up...you run into BAD CUSTOMER...

drives me crazy. | Maybe it is the money Lone. And Mama is just saying that "Papa told it all wrong" to spare me the embarrassment of saying "We can't afford to do what we really want to do"! Quote:

No, I am not making this up.

Dougster™ | And here I thought I was the only one with a decorative stump.... the pine stump on my sideyard contrasts the remaining pine trees quite nicely. |

You should have seen the look on her face when I looked her straight in the eye and told her: "I'm an excavator and I make decorative stumps disappear"!!!

I wasn't quick enough with my camera before rolling my eyes, shaking my head and leaving... but it was the same idea, only about 10 times as large and ugly.
