Im going the wood insert route for upstairs - something with a 72k BTU capability and blower, and a 10-12 hour burn time should do nicely...will keep everybody posted when completed

Well I took the plunge & replaced the lame old woodstove that is the primary heat source in our house. The Pacific NW weather is mild compared to what many of you deal with, but our house is very drafty, leaky, and inefficient. Also we'll have a newborn in the house in November, so that helped justify the cost.

We bought this Lopi Leyden at the fair & installed it last week:

73,000 btu/hr
12-hour burn time
EPA certified for WA

Deanster:

Nice unit and congratulations on both the unit and the anticipated "unit" . My wife and I have been talking about replacing our 3 legged wood stove for over 20 years, but we have not made the move yet. Jay

Congrats on the newborn basically in 1 month from now! Nervous? first one? Oh yeah I remember those days - its a great feeling, take pictures

The stove looks beatiful and looks like a serious heat generator. I did go with the insert (wood) from Regency and it should be installed within the next 2 weeks

Full cords here are now over $300 plus - and everybody is running out. Still plenty left, and more coming in

Bought my pellets about 6 Weeks ago and paid $200/T. Can be had and many placed for about $230. Seasoned cord wood is selling for a little less. If you want to cut and haul, price is about $180 depending upon variety.

You like live in the land of the giant redwood correct? I wonder how many cords of wood I would get from just one 300 footer -and how many 18" saws I would burn out - <j/K>

You guys have a pretty good supply of natural hardwoods in your area? maybe thats why its lower by you, or the saeson is milder?
New England is really high priced right now - even though they have lots of forrests, the price of wood is really high. I live on a island and we are nowwhere near as high, and the supply is good with no real shortages (other than seasoned wood being out of stock)

The Redwoods in our area are not the giants found in Calif but they do get fairly large. I have a number that are in the 4' dia range. Evergreens are the dominate kinds of trees we have. You will find maples, ash, oak and a few other hard woods.

Much of the cord wood I still have is from cutting a couple elms and they can get quite large. The last ones I did were 3 ft in dia. slices took me and both boys to muscle them up and place on the splitter. Each slice yielded about 3 wheel burrows of split wood. I personally like elm, it's dense, burns well and is low in ash.
