Come-on Doug, lets get serious here. A tandom D8.

I'd say the pond job is a 1-2 hr project using this set-up.

Actually, that's a D11. Makes the entire project a 6 minute job!

But I do see Lone's point about dozer rental costs. Biggest you can rent around here by the day is a D6. D8 and above is longer term (weekly or monthly) rental only. And the daily rate for a D6 dozer is almost double the cost of a CAT 938G/H loader!!!

A CAT 420DIT (full-size TLB) daily rental is roughly a third the cost of the D6 dozer daily rental.

I do agree that bigger is almost better. But it will take longer, and cost more to get that baby to the site, then it would take to push the dirt back in the hole. That means less seat time which translates into less fun.

I think everybody covered all my concerns Lone. My biggest was soft mushy stuff in the bottom of the hole. Provided you put enough in before driving on it you should be ok. One thing you want to make sure of is good compaction. You don't want a call back next spring to fix the sink hole.
