Default Ags or Chains for snow

Last year I have chains on turfs and got to plow twice. Both times were a wet, heavy snow with some ice and crusting. Chains worked great.

This year I have ags on, and I'm wondering if I'll have more problems than with chains. Has anyone used both ags and chains on the same tractor, and in different kinds of snow? If so, which worked better in which conditions?

I have used both (see link below) and can easy switch back from AG and turfs & Chains because they are on seperate rims. Since our drivetrains are similair my results can be shared and with similar results. I just use the AG tires in winter - its works great for me because of the amount of weight I have on the machine. Between the cab, suitcase & wheel weights it really puts the traction where it is needed. It also depends if you are dealing with significant inclines, icy conditions, and if you are using a plow. Im using a blower, which dosent require the push requirements like a plow. So maybe the chains are needed more with a plow. I also installed my driveway, and yes Chains mark it up badly (V-bars dig severely)

Hope this helps

Just a Cub 3000 series with some options

Well, after plowing about 6" of snow, I have concluded that there is no difference in performance between ags and chains with this type of snow. Chains definitely have an advantage with packed ice, but I didn't have any of that here, and things went very well. I wasn't able to get pictures though, because I didn't go out to plow until 9:00, and the wife was in bed by then.

Cool deal looks like you got a good amount to try out on. You got seperate rims and such? The chains dont require as much weight as the AG's in order to have good traction. I leave my turfs and chains already on the turfs on the side, just in case. But in anycase we got skunked on this stinker storm .

I don't have extra rims, which is something I'm hoping to rectify soon. And I agree about chains not needing as much weight. Hopefully I'll get some more weight this afternoon, and then get some rims off of someone on eBay. We haven't had a winter yet that didn't have some kind of ice storm crap, so I'll most likely need the chains at some point.
