I mean like the age old disscussions and debates about 2520 and 2320. we had some heated ones. over there i know. but to me its just it is healthy for new people to be able to read them. and make there own decitions. i think it helps others to make there own choices. but if thay dont like what you say. it just gets deleted. but everyone knows bird is a kubota guy. so if you are have a debate on JD and kubota. Chris... | I agree, The moderators I encountered at TBN are simply legends in their own mind and I mean that with the highest degree of respect.
I cant remember the name of the one I dealt with last but he my friend was a complete Schlemiel. Can I say schlemiel?

I used to own an ant farm but had to give it up. I couldn't find tractors small enough to fit it.

Points: 0 | I was a relative new-comer to TBN, just like here.
I have built a couple or three forums, and have modded my share too.
Moderating can be as easy or as difficult as you want to make it.
Some people get off on being Big Brother. Others simply try to keep things on an even keel, rarely interfering. Funny thing, but most large groups tend to self-police anyway.
I realized, early on, at TBN, what I was dealing with, when I saw one of the mods mentioning "post count" in terms of experience/knowledge, as if someone with 4,000 posts is somehow a PhD in Tractoring, while someone with 100 posts was a Kindergartner. Been there before, didn't even want to respond, it told me something about the "leadership".
TBN does have some good points, but the place is a bit uptight. I always get the "business only" feeling there. No FUN allowed!
I started out in the Kubota owners section, because thats where my www searches landed me. As soon as I saw the silly Orange vs. Green vs. Blue debates and fights I split that joint! Brand loyalty is one thing, but you would think some of these folks are being paid a salary by the Marketing departments of the manufacturers! cripes.
I found the Build-it section, Customization, Hydraulics and Attachments were more about people who simply shared their knowledge, skills and interest in equipment. the other thing I like about some of those sections is the way people are handled by the experienced folk. They aren't talked down to. If someone asks a simplistic question, they are treated with a little bit of dignity. Those sections are some great places to learn a few things.
As far as Kenny's picture being obscene? Do the TBN Mods watch the news? Dismembered bodies lying in the streets of Baghdad, now that is obscene! Oh well, some folks just don't have as refined a sense of humor as someone like KennyD. I remember seeing that one, never knew it was deleted?
A lady-friend of mine at work prides herself on her costumes. One of her best all-time costumes was a Pregnant Topless Nun.
In the words of the Larry the Cableguy, "That right thar is funny!"
But, to some, maybe a pair of breasts are obscene. go figure.
I think at the heart of it, there is a bit of a culture clash at TBN.
Old-timers and younger people, Midwesterners and Right and Left Coasters.
I'll still visit TBN, but it will remain "business only". No joking allowed.
One last question: Does anyone know why "HomeBrew" or "HomeBrew2" was banned? He had a Kubota BX, built a few things, like gauge wheels and such, then BAM, he was banned. I learned a few things from him as they relate to the BX tractor.
I look at Banning as saying "This person has no redeeming value" or the person has many more defecits than plusses.
Is most of the TBN banning for cursing? arguing? or posting pictures of men with sheep? | Kubota BX2350 and more attachments than I have sense to operate.

Is most of the TBN banning for cursing? arguing? or posting pictures of men with sheep? | Thats too funny ! Personally speaking I did none of the above. Simply defended a member who was being antagonized by the Moderator and another member, God forgive you point out their faults-LOL. Hence it became one of the catalysts of starting this site - I like to think I have a few good qualities, and certainly TBN isn't the benchmark of defining ones character or redeeming value -
Duc

Points: 0 | Yeah, I simply posted the details of a shotty business deal I got from a business that advertised on TBN. Upon exposing this raw deal I received I was promptly booted off the site. Oh well, I like it hear alot better. Folks are more down to earth.

Is most of the TBN banning for cursing? arguing? or posting pictures of men with sheep? | Wow! IMO a very accurate description of what’s been happening for the last few years. Especially your reference to post counts equating to knowledge - That doesn’t work for me either as I’ve seen some relatively new members with exceptional information and experience, willing to share their projects and ideas, but treated less than welcome…and often ignored or threatened by pioneers with big numbers and tenure.
Ultimately a site develops it’s own personality and if it’s based on a civil and friendly exchanges of information and experiences AND members are respectful of all people, brands, individuals backgrounds then that’s where I want to go…(like here, Machine Underground).
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to post deletions or banning. Like the Cop that pulls you over, writes you a ticket and gives you a sermon about a broken tail light…only to discover later that your car is the identical one to the boyfriend that ran off with his wife. Unprovoked, unjustified and predisposed to single someone out.

Points: 0 | I think Kenny getting a 24 hour ban is the funniest thing I ever heard in my life! That's funny, I don't care who you are! I was a major a-hole to some people and never got that!
I do have to say, at least there aren't any engineers here looking at my every post and nit-picking everything I say. It gets kind of tiring when you post "street knowledge" that goes against conventional engineering then you get ganged up on by an engineer and his boyfriends. I would never post anything technical that I didn't know was absolutely factual and worked.
