Default Backhoe mounts

My personal preference for mounting a backhoe is either the sub-frame or direct mount, since I want the ability to remove the hoe. I've used backhoes mounted on the 3pt, and found them to have more movement than I wanted because of the 3pt mount.
I'm looking at attachments for the next tractor, and while I like the JD offers, my dealer has a Woods 3pt mount 9000bh w/pump for less than the 375bh.
What's everyone's experience and opinion on each style mount?

JD 2520 w/46bh, 200cx loader, meyers 6ft plow
jd 425 w/54"mmm& 54"plow

You could not give me a 3PH mounted hoe! Far to many horror stories of tractors breaking in half with them. Now if was such a great deal and you could make a subframe then go for it.

I would still take the JD unit though...

John Deere 4110HST
FEL, MMM, FEL Forks (homemade),I-Match, Ballast Box, #380 plow (modified to fit) Markham LD-48 Grapple, and lots of other STUFF.

How much less than the JD hoe?
Is it worth the hassle to make a subframe or is the deal so good you could buy a Woods subframe for the tractor? (Woods offers subframes for many tractors..I think the cost is in the $1000-1500 range)

My take on the 3pt hoes are, a large Heavy Duty tractor can take a small 3pt hoe with few concerns, but if you get a hoe big enough for the tractor, a subframe is a very good idea. However, there are some very happy owners of Kubota matched 3pt hoe set-ups.

I bought a 3pt hoe for a 2100 lb tractor, after hooking it up w/3pt hardware I didn't feel comfortable with the sloppy feel. So I made a subframe for it, after that I never felt any concerns while using the hoe.

Must agree with Kenny here. Every 3-point I've ever looked at was a toy and/or a very bad joke. The warnings and tales of tractor damage and operator injury from using a 3-point hoe are everywhere. If you are serious, it should be a sub-frame or frame-mounted hoe.

if you are thinking a 3 pt for the 2520 tractor you have listed in your signature block,, think again, you don't have tractor enough to even consider a decent hoe.. I've only seen one three point set up worth it and I actually operated the tractor for some time, that being a new TN75 w/woods 10 1/2ft 3pt hoe. Not to make fun of your tractor personally,, it is just too small a machine to have anything decent for a hoe..

Now you better duck 'n run fast there Larry 'cause 74% of the folks here on MU own those John Deere 2520's with Deere's Model 46 backhoe attached (including the Gunmaker and the Ducster)!!! Gotta be kind to the Lime Green folks ya know!

I believe the old Gunmaker was actually inquiring in regard to his next tractor... a heavier, more powerful one (possibly cabbed)... but which is still obviously a hot issue of debate!

Cab Tractors - Why?

The deal on the Woods 9000bh is sweet enough that the purchase of the Woods bh frame (assuming availability) would bring the price about equal to the JD 375bh. The 9000bh has a 9ft digging capability, slightly better than the JD 475.
Larry's right about the 9000 being too much for my tractor, but this is for a planned trade up to a 3320, and I'm checking out all possibilities. I personally have some concerns over the usage of 3pt hoes, but conversion to a frame mount would alleviate that, and this deal on a leftover is real sweet! More info makes for a better decision!

No Dougy , Larry is right , a 2520 is not a backhoe machine.
Hell for that matter neather is a 3000 seris or a 4000 seris.
none of these are real hoes. there more like attachments.
and yes thay work fine. but compairing to a contruction machine.
thay all look like tonka toys. I did not realize it til i started looking
at the big stuff. But thay all have there place. Craig has to have a hoe that comes off. so he can hook up his snow plow , witch i so happen to
think is Cool , specialy the pic where he is bundled up like an eskimo
plowing snow on the 2520.....

But i will say this. I have dug drainage with my little
46 hoe on my 2520 , that larry would not have a snowball in hell
chance of digging with his L48 , because he flat could not fit between
the trees to get to it......

Chris....
