Default 2520 Diverter Valve Project

Hey Guys
I have been working on this project the last few weeks. Again wanted to thank Kenny for his help and support with my project.
I used the same Gresen valve for the project which I bought at http://surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UI...name=hydraulic
I painted the valve with JD primer and Black enamel. Next, I located a mounting spot on my 2520 - I felt that the frame for the loader mast was the best spot. To fit the valve - I need to tilt it to the left a bit so it clears the fuel water separator and the mast. If this isn't done - the fitting on the top right won't clear the mast. I clamped the valve to the frame and drilled the two mounting holes then tapped them to accept a 1/4 20 3 inch machine screw. Once I knew my location I ordered fittings from Discount Hydraulics and picked some up from my local supply shop. I had my hoses made at my JD dealership. I wanted the lines to follow the original hose path as closely as possible. Kenny helped me with this as well - the curl / dump valves from the tractor feed the P T ports on the valve (yellow and silver). These feed through the valve when it is de-energized and exit via ports C1 and C4. When energized the C2 and C3 circuit will be active to my grapple (plan to purchase a WR Long 48in RGB-2). I will run the hoses for the grapple after purchase but have the quick connects already installed. Next phase is electrical and hook up of the Otto Joystick I bought - will post on completion. Any questions just ask - Cheers, Brad

Hey Brad, the hydraulic fluid supplying the valve is pressurized off the tractor right? So the electrical hookup is only to open/close a valve as needed? Do you need to run a separate solenoid for the diverter, or can the new joystick switch handle the load?
Neat project, I can see this in the future! Craig

jd 425 w/54"mmm& 54"plow

Craig
You are correct - the hydraulic fluid is supplied from the tractor and without power to the valve it flows to the cylinders for the curl / dump function. The joystick switch will handle the load and energize the valve which will divert the fluid to the other ports to control my grapple. With the switch held when I move the joystick instead of dump / curl I will open and close the grapple. You could also use this to run a plow blade if you want to. Thanks for the interest and comments - if I can help you let me know.

Cheers,
Brad

Amazing work Brad -

Im really, really interested in your thought on the type of grapple you mentioned, and of course when you get one, your thoughts on it. All this prep work is for the grapple? Did you get a TnT for the back yet? Great job and worthy of a lifetime sticky

Hey Duc / Kenny
The diverter valve project is in preparation for the WR Long Grapple. It is about 1700 dollars so I am saving my change at the moment - hope to purchase in the Spring. This is the link to the site http://www.wrlonginc.com/rbg.htm. Nelson Long is great to deal with and has emailed me answers to my questions on several occasions. I have the top cylinder but have not purchased the side / tilt cylinder yet. It is working great here is the link to the one I got: http://surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UI...name=hydraulic
Kenny, I have my Otto Joystick and am hoping to connect it and wire it in the next week or two. Not really urgent at the moment b/c I don't have the grapple yet but I do love my projects! How is yours working out Kenny? It looks great in the pics - ready for use with your plow I bet. We are supposed to get up to 6 in tonight - chains are on and I am ready to go!! Will keep this thread updated as I progress. Thanks for your kind words you guys - I appreciate it.

Brad

I cant wait to get a grapple. I think the one rolltideram has. i think its called a mazzoni grapple <---- Spelled wrong.
it looks nice. and seems like its not to heavy for a 2520 or a 3000 seris.
some are just to heavy. weigh in at 600 pounds.

Kenny - I have considered the Millonzi... I guess I like the WR Long design better and have had some good interactions with Nelson. They both look quite capable so I guess it is more personal preference nothing too specific
