Andy - Are you still doing hydraulic hoses on the side?

Damn!I hope he didn't finally lose at one of them fightin' matches he goes to.
I was wondering if he would give be a price on some hoses if he were still doing that work.I need a set of 4 real quick!!!
Also got some questions for him. I am back in hydraulic hell again. Can you tell?Maybe you can help answer?
What is the dirt cheapest portable crimper (new or used) you'd ever recommend a "non-pro" tractor/mini-ex owner buy?
Is it true that you can't mix & match brands of crimpers/dies and ends/hoses? If so, what brand gives the best overall performance without breaking the bank?
Bottom line: At what point does it make sense to take a deep breath, swallow hard and buy a damn crimper???

I will PM you his email in a few...
Ever looked at DHH? Even cheap ones aren't cheap and don't come with dies. Used ones I have seen go for 1k and up around here....What is the dirt cheapest portable crimper (new or used) you'd ever recommend a "non-pro" tractor/mini-ex owner buy?
Absolutely true IMHO. I would not wan the risk of mis-matching parts. Weatherhead, Gates, Eaton...lots of good manes around. None are "cheap"Is it true that you can't mix & match brands of crimpers/dies and ends/hoses? If so, what brand gives the best overall performance without breaking the bank?
In my way of thinking, it doesn't make sense at all. For the one or four hoses you may blow a year it is just not cost effective to keep a crimper, hose and fittings "in stock".Bottom line: At what point does it make sense to take a deep breath, swallow hard and buy a damn crimper???![]()
OTOH, having a 20' piece of 1/4" and 3/8" hose and some common re-usable fittings can make sense to get you through the day until a proper hose can be sourced. Remember the thread I did on re-usables?

Thanks Ken!
I'll email Andy.In regard to crimpers, I really was focusing on used ones. There are some used ones on eBay right now for $500 without pump and $900 to $1100 complete. Small ones and portables. Dies are going to be extra in most cases.
The biggest hangup is not the investment but tying myself to a particular brand of hose and/or ends. Not sure I like that idea at all.
But I also don't like getting ripped off and played for a fool. The prices around here for hoses are absolutely outragous.
These are not replacements for blown hoses. I don't blow that many. These are for new projects and refurbishments (replacements before they blow!). I've really gone as far as I care to go with off-the-shelf and reusable ends. I've had it. Like you say... great for repairs and occasional use but there is no substitute for the real deal if it's doable.
If Andy can't take care of me, there is one last place for me to try. It's a little far away but the prices could be more reasonable from what I hear.

Doug, may I ask why you don't like the reusable ends? I use them all the time, 100% re plumbed my Case dozer using them. I have never had a problem with them of any kind.

Doug, if Andy can't help you, have you tried DHH for complete assembled hoses? I would think that they would be fair priced and fairly quick, one of those things of you don't know without checking. I know that my local hydraulic shops at best are double what DHH is and can be as much as 4.5 times higher. I do my very best to not patronize those places.
My thought would be that it is just to much $$$$ to purchase all the stuff required to be crimping my own hoses. A $1000 goes a long way when all you need is a few hoses here and there.
Just my opinion
Good luck
Brian
I am here brother Dougster! Beaten, battered, and walking wounded but I will live to fight another day. I'll post more on that later, long story.
Yes, I am still making hoses and will hook you up like nobody else possibly can. If cost is not cheap enough, then I don't know what to do. Don't know how far you are from there, but I will be in Oneco CT over the 4th of July weekend. GF's parents stay at a campground over the summer.
You could always shoot me a pm, they go right to my email inbox.
