If you can remind me of the type of fluid you used Hyguard and how much did it take, and what type of oil for the gear redcution housings?

Yeeaaah I did...I do all those same things. Gosh, I've changed the axle (2) fluid, transfer case fluid, transmission fluid on my Dodge every 15k, replaced the brake fluid at 30k, and I'm about to do it all again now that I'm about to hit 50k. I've had the crazy ($$$) habit of doing this same preventive maintainence on everything I have. Heck, I've some neighbors that come with clean containers to gather my used engine oil for use in their farm tractors and equipment, because I change it every 2500 miles.

Duc it is John deere Hyguard. its just not what the book calls for.
it is called high tempiture fluid. part# TY22062 5 Gallons
the gear reductions use the same fluid. it fills them. when you fill the trans.
you dont haft to do it seperate.

Big thanks go's to Kenny and my JD dealer for getting me on the right track. As you all know the manual is a joke on the 2520 , and most info is
incorrect. well i am going to use this whole thread to get you on the right path with pictures. I spent the whole day doing the 50 hour service on my 2520. i am very anal being a car guy.i replaced everything all filters and fluids. everything but coolant. i dont miss nothing. before we get started on the trans a few notes. manual says front end holds 4 quarts 80/90 gear lube. this is not right. if done right and you drain all three plugs left wheel , right wheel and center. it holds 5 quarts. Also when changing the oil and filter. manual says it hold 3 quarts with filter. this is incorrect. if you install a new filter it holds 4 quarts even.

Now on to the trans service. ok first you need a 5 gallon bucket.
put it under the trans right to the right of the mid mount PTO shaft.
this is your main drain plug.
here it is.
Thanks for the informative write up on the transmission service.

Has anyone ordered the technical manual from JD?

Awesome buddy - I didn't catch the gear reduction drain will have to do that now that I am due again. I have the tech manual - very informative and interesting if you want to know all about your tractor. It is pricey though - 110.00 i think.....

Chris -

Awesome post. I did my 50 hour service over a year ago now. Because the manual is so messed up, I didn't remove the screen as I wasn't sure where it was. I did change the oil, I'll get the screen on the 200 hr mark. I'm at 158hr right now. I too noticed the same thing on the engine oil holding 3 quarts and not 4. How many people out there do you think throw just three down the hole and say they're all set?

I love my 2520, but these large companies just sometimes leaving us all shaking our heads. Can you believe these people get paid to print those things? Even the fuel filter section is wrong. When was the last time it was ok to only tighten only half of the lug nuts on your race car?
