Excellent suggestion Paul,

I have Wayne’s (Little Miami Trading Company - Compact Tractors) catalogue and although it has many hard to find parts and numbers that are engine, hydraulic and chassis related there are no transmission parts available or listed through his PDF file.

Calling or emailing him wouldn’t hurt though.

The real course of action, then, appears to be, put in used transmission, get it running and TRADE IT...

I've got my JD dealership researching on how this YANMAR/JD breakup affects my old JD855...depending on the answer is whether I need to trade it for a 4720, real soon now...

I used to own an ant farm but had to give it up. I couldn't find tractors small enough to fit it.

What does it matter. I thought a 4720 has a power tech engine in it.
or are you worried about getting parts for the smaller tractor.

Off the JD website...

4720
4-cylinder John Deere PowerTech™
turbocharged diesel engine

4105
Yanmar 3-cylinder TNV Series diesel engine (meets the EPA emission standards for Tier II emission requirements)

JD identifies Yanmar engines on its website...so I assumed the PowerTech is NOT Yanmar...so am I mistaken?

The old JD855 has Yanmar engine...

Welcome Cowboycalvin30,

Finding and verifying the information would be considerably more difficult than locating a transmission.

The JD parts catalogue show the 850, 950 and 1050 transmission case to be nearly identical. If that is the case (no pun intended ) that should rule out the time devoted to searching the gray market Yanmar's and (once verified) concentrate on the above models for a perfect match.

Hope this is some help.

Mark
