Thumbs up www.jdparts.com click on the “Parts Catalog”

Do we have/need this??

I was thinking of the JD enthusiasts and moderator(s) who might use it as a resource to help problem solving. I (shamelessly) copied it from another forum where it received little, if any interest but I thought it to be very interesting and certainly a good aid should I be researching a JD part.

I did a search as suggested at www.jdparts.com clicked on the “Parts Catalog” button which was a little hard to find…but it’s there about the middle left of homepage and in Yellow….

I experimented and entered a model JD790, then a JD950 just to give her a test and it gives many, many options and includes very detailed and explode-able parts diagrams. It goes all the way back to 1975. It also offers free PDF downloads and easily copied pictures…

It’s something I haven’t seen before…and maybe you have? Anyway If we don’t have it…it may be a decent link Machine Underground can use (?)

No problem....thought either you or a John Deere guy ought to give it a good once over and have him put it up (Just in case someone asks a JD question LOL)

I have been using that system for years, and have become quite proficient with it. It is a fabulous resource to have at hand especially when doing some custom work that I like to do. It is the same basic system the parts counter guys at the dealerships use.

Just one more reason why the green paint cost's a little more

Wow, that's great.

I though it was a little difficult to navigate and then figured it was me because it prompts so many options to nail down what exactly you're looking for. The second time was much easier.

Kenny, while I got ya' - I was trying to help a fellow tractor buff replace a cracked engine block on his JD950. What I found was the 950 and 850 share the same or similar part number (I assume the bore is smaller). Will an 850 engine bolt up to, and replace a 950 engine?? And is it true that the 950's are prone to crack?? (I told him I hadn't heard this before...but wasn't sure).

Hey, their Yanmars and pretty decent engines in my book .

Thanks, Mark

Give me a couple day to research it Mark, really busy right now-I will get back to you...But I have never heard of a problem with cracked blocks, as you said, the Yanmar engines are pretty bulletproof. Where did it crack? any reason like freezing that you know of?

Sorry, Haven't seen the engine first hand. I suspect freezing though...as he may have purchased it as a fixer-upper and not running.

He showed up on another forum explaining the engine was in the shop for an overhaul and they said the block was unrepairable, cracked between #2 cylinders...so while searching for a useable replacement he was told the 950 engine block was prone to crack and very difficult to find any.

Ultimately he ended up on a Yanmar gray market forum asking if a YM engine would fit.
