Due to arrive on May 16th now.

Since the shed/detached garage is where it will reside, i gotta get the door opened up so that it opens up to 90" so that the unit will make it through.

Door done, unit arrived, got about 3.5 hours on it - found an issue with 3 PT hitch, gonna get dealers to look at it.

Chris; I was trying out a light flail (68"/540 lbs) and ran for about 20 minutes and then the tractor started shaking. Took the flail off and the shaking stopped. The flail was okay, so I started checking out the tractor. 3PT raised and lowered as normal, rear PTO rotated as usual, then I went to put some down pressure on the #PT arms and then I found out where the shaking was. It is in the #PT arms and when I pushed on them, the hydraulic mechanism they were attached to started sounding like it had asthma and the arms would oscillate/vibrate under the load of me pushing them down. I either need an adjustment on the 3PT hitch hydraulics or a valve is leaking. I cannot fathom i got something bent, as we are talking grass cutting here and I was cutting high (4" height on grass that was 6"), and it is a flail so it beats the grass to pieces instead of slashing it in mass. So the beating is less stressful than if I used a rotary mower. Either one would have worked in this scenario with any stress. Either was, I am gonna get my local service to take a look and fix as I just got this unit and something happened under conditions that were not heavy at all. Not even medium load.

A JD mechanic I described my issue to, really seemed to think it was that I need an adjustment on the 3PT hitch hydraulics . He was thinking it could be done in my driveway (I hope so as that would be fantastic). I just hope it is that simple and the unit was not hurt and requires a repair. I and gonna do a test today that he suggested and hopefully I see the symptoms he said I should see. If that is the case. Then, i might just have the local service tell me what to do over the phone and save them the trip. However, pushing down on the loader arms with my weight should not cause the hydraulics to become asthmatic, so I guess i will just need to keep my fingers crossed!

Thanks for the compliment! But I am no JD mechanic-or professional mechanic at all! I am just a guy who likes working on tractors-cars-motorcycles, ect. that is also well read...

I used to own an ant farm but had to give it up. I couldn't find tractors small enough to fit it.

KennyD, gee the way you imparted that info and i was able to isolate the problem to that area and/or the PTO (whirring sound but it could be normal?), you had me convinced! Gee I hope so and that they can get it back to me fast as I gotta cut my grass. I am considering a slightly used 2006 72" 7 iron MMM, for my maintenance cutting and use the flail for brush killing as it seems better for me at that. Then again, i was not finished adjusting it for cutting so I may try it out.

anyone know if there are huge differences between the 2006 7 Iron MMM and the 2008 version?

Chris; You know, no I did not as it just came from the dealer, but I am gonna go out and check it right now and see what it looks like. If they forgot to fill it, I would be shocked. And i would be embarrassed for not looking!

another symptom of the problem is that now the draft arms do not stay up when the tractor is off. I went out to the shed and they were down even though i have the level set to its highest and they were up when I left it? They used to stay up or I just did not notice ?.

Well all oils and fluid seem fine. So whatever it is is in the rear hydraulics.
