Points: 0 | So let me ask you commercial contractor-type L39 guys something. I'm just sort of thinking ahead depending on how things go over the next couple of years.
Does the L39 handle most of the tasks you ask of it, or are any of you starting to find tasks that you think the M59 would be better suited to, and when taking on paying tractor jobs, would entertain the idea of trading up to the M59.
I bought my B3030 not too long ago, and I am thoroughly pleased with it for use on my property. However, in looking ahead and being concerned with the economic slowdown, immediately after taking delivery, I put a "Tractor For Hire" sign out front, and have been getting a steady stream of tractor work. Thank goodness for that, as the building construction work has really slowed. I can see that although the B3030 is fine for supplemental income, if the tractor jobs continue to grow and multiply, a bigger, heavier duty machine will be in order so that I don't destroy my personal machine.
Now, so far, my machine has been the perfect size for a lot of these jobs, but I don't think the L39 would be too big either. There does come a time when a full size machine is too big, so something smaller would be a useful piece of equipment - one that could bridge the gap between small and large machines. I think the L39 would be perfect for those types of jobs, but wonder if the M59 would make more sense. I'm kind of thinking L39 and the occasional full size rental or large track hoe for jobs too big for the L39.
Any thoughts, comments, opinions? | KUBOTA B3030 with R4s, fender mount FEL joystick, 40 amp alternator, block heater, loaded rears, LA403 w/60" bucket, BH75 w/12" bucket, pin-type QA, pallet forks, & Landpride RB2572, Bro-Tek thumb.

all good questions and for me it was strictly the biggest machine I'm allowed to tow without a CDL license. It really stinks that was the limit imposed on me, not what was based on my needs. Otherwise an m59 would be in my hands
Right now I like having the machine that has for the most part skid steer strength along with the backhoe of real good depth and power in one tool.
I really like the loader abilities and height ability (huge plus). Its a big difference between a machine of my 2520 or your 3030 and going up to a L39 or other TLB size. Just the way everything is made and designed is for longevity, and continuous use. I really like the L39, it will serve me well for years to come, and get me where I need to be without renting for most to all jobs.
I hate renting and it always takes many hours out of the day to get thing back in time, or to reserve one in advance. I like having the flexibility of knowing I could start most jobs the next morning, or work until dusk not having to pay an extra day or limit my work hours.
As for your business opportunities, just make sure you protect yourself (liability) and adhere to whats needed to be in business (depends on State). Its so much easier knowing you did the legal end of things and don't have to be in the shadows. Before you spend money on upgrading, make sure you will be making money to pay it off or afford it. Lots of folks hurting these days because of the drop off....count for the learn times and ride them out... | New to the Fold: Kubota L39 w/grapple, pallet forks, BH QA buckets, and more! While I don't use my L39 as my primary business. I do, and will work it for what it takes to make it's payments primarily.
I think it could be an income maker because of a niche of a lower impact machine vs. of the thousands of backhoes out there that some people don't want in their back yard or a sensitive area- thus the B21-B26 that fits those requirements.
M59 is close to the "don't want in my back yard". | David Bassler

Points: 0 | As you all know I don't work my tractor very hard because it a "Garage Queen" and need to baby it and dust and wax it weekly. But I put a small dent in the bucket that I need advise on how to apply bondo to it so I can paint and polish it back to just like new.
How would you all go about fixing this because of the small root ball that caused this belimished?
Damn if I could quit playing with these monsters I wouldn't be so scared of what I will do to it next. | David Bassler

Now you know that I approved of your fine choice of machine and your bold, unrestrained willingness to use it... but you have got to stop destroying expensive things!!!
Time to reevaluate and maybe think about doing what I did. Knowing full well that my light-duty bucket was going to get destroyed sooner or later (mostly sooner)... and having tried a larger heavy-duty bucket that turned out to be a bit too wide and shallow for most uses, I bought a 66" toothed Caterpillar skid steer loader bucket. The thing is a brutal monster, weighs more than twice as much as a comparable tractor bucket and, so far, has been impossible to damage. This includes uses that bent my heavy-duty root/rock grapple into a pretzel.
Not that YOU couldn't destroy an extreme-duty skid steer bucket... ... but at least you wouldn't be harming the resale value of your rather costly orange investment.
