Default Kubota B20 w/ BT750 Backhoe

Greetings to all: I am a new member and this is my first post. I didn't see anything on B20 so I started this thread. My tractor is an oldie but a goodie, however, my BT750 Backhoe w/Auto return has stopped swinging side to side. It was an intermittent problem and if I unplugged the unit electrical, or shut it off and turned it back on, it would usually begin working again.

Most recently, I can't get it to function side to side at all. The local dealer says its $1800 worth of parts and labor to repair it. I don't have that kind of $$ so I am trying to eliminate possible problems.

Is this a common Kubota BT750 problem? An Auto-Return problem? Can I simply disable auto return if that is the culprit?

I am a novice at repair but I suspect it is a problem in the electrical signal to the hydraulics and not the hydraulics. Can anyone point me in the right direction? What else could be causing my problem?

Thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to learning from the collective wisdom.

Scott

Hello Scott, I am am pretty good with both hydraulics and electrical/electronic stuff, but not on the same machine! I never even knew Kubota had such a thing as "auto return"

But, it sure sounds like your problem is not with the hydraulics...definitely electronic. I assume there are sensors to monitor where the boom is? I am thinking like a long screw with a reader-head type thing attached? Can you post pictures please? I would love to help you figure this out! Sure wish you where closer to MD though.

Thanks Kenny. Let me see if it quits raining long enough this weekend to get under it and take a better look. If possible I will add photos. How do I attach the files to a message? If I click the envelope above it asks for an http location. I just have photos in a file, probably with a .jpeg extension.

Under the button that says "submit reply", there is one that says "manage attachments", click that then find the pictures on your PC. You can add 6 or 8 to one post...each file needs to be less then 1meg so you may have to resize your pictures.

Kenny: No pictures but I did find a book and there is a sensor at the pivot point. It is electronic and I need to see if I can move the boom all the way to the left to test. I don't know if that will require disconnecting one or more of the pistons. The intermittent nature leads me to believe it is a wiring problem but everything looks good. I have a number of other things going on like remodeling an office and then moving my office so this will be a slow process.

Thanks,

Scott

I have all the time in the world!

My money is on that sensor being bad...It probably works like a potentiometer and change resistance as it moves, so there is probably "dead" spots in it.

Does this "auto return" feature only work the swing of the hoe?
