I've also seen in condo developments where they put literally cinderblocks that have holes in them and they plant sod.
from 10' away it looks like solid grass
but ti's strong enough (and designed for) a fire truck to pass thru without them having a full road.
interesting stuff
sucks when the sprinkler pipe breaks underneath though.
