For my preceived woodworking needs around the JaysterAcresI keep 3 chains: A new and rotate the other two used/sharpened, very used/sharpened chains. Doing something stupid

, I ruined the U/S chain
. Cost of a replacement $21.78
. I did not even look at the prices of the new "eco" bar oil
.

Depends on the bar and chain but 18" chains can be that.....and more
I like Oregon stuff....everything they make seems really good, and lasts...my mower blades are oregon only![]()

I still buy Sears chainsaws and chains and throw them away when they're dull...
Though I haven't had to buy a chain for a couple of years...since I bought in quantity way back when...![]()
Sounds like the old Jayster got a relative bargain after all!![]()
So now you *can* go for the "Green Earth-Friendly" bar & chain oil!
Bailey's - Green Earth G-Oil Bar and Chain Oil - One Gallon
Gotta keep your Jayster carbon footprint under control (just like Al and I do!).

There used to be a time when this would work for most of the outdoor power equipment from Sears of the consumer brand
Sears used to have a model with a chain sharpener built in - that was a slick idea, maybe shortened the life of the chain a bit , but you always had a sharp chain...miss that idea
....I have found (and of course Im not alone) is that the engines are only rated for so many hours of use before they just die.
The blowers are about 25 hrs nowchainsaws are likely around that as well (rebadge Poulan?) - the Wildthing Poulan dont last at all for me (and they werent used that much either)...so after a while you wind up replacing them enought time, that they get close to the price of commerical units.....just my .02 cents

I buy either 18" Stihl and/or Oregon chains for my saw whatever is available at a "local" Kubota Dealer down the road 14 miles. The original chain that came with the Stihl was so anti-kickback designed it did not cut well. I changed chain models and have had no complaints with either the Stihl and/or Oregon chains.

I used up all my old bar oil, and I have been using an Husquvarna "eco-friendly" bar oil [for $19/G vs 10.50/G for the "non-Green" stuff (last year's prices)]. The "eco" stuff appears to gel at higher temperatures than the "old" bar oil. Due to mydiet, I need to do everything possible to reduce my CO, CO2, and CH4 emissions around JaysterAcres
