Default Dog pen dust bowl

I have a Great Dane and a little runt, every thing was ok there was some grass missing but since I can't exercise them any more they have taken to using there 20x25 area into a race track and Sumo wrestling area and all the grass is gone leaving just loam.
Have any of you used nit pack for a dog pen area and what are the pros and cons,I have to do something it has been dry here and the dust is just unbearable I can look out my second story window and see a dust storm and they are bringing in a large amount in the house.
