Default Vigilance: what it takes to get rid of poison ivy

I go on PI hunting expeditions several times a year. My goal is to eraticate all of it from my property. I don't see much of it anymore, but every once in a while I'll see a small patch or two..

I was splitting and cutting wood today and I walked around my ancient brush cart and spotted this. Can you see it too?

Thankfully Im not allergic to it, and the worst I get is a small itch.....

I find the sun is the best long term preventer of PI.....otherwise kill it with the nasty stuff.....super concentrated round up seems to work well (not the home depot stuff), the stuff that is at the wholesalers

    Hi Duc.
Sometimes I get a few itchy bumps.. but occasionally I get it bad..so I try to get rid of it before it can get me or Steph.

I'm allergic to poison ivy and poison oak real bad..... In June I was using the weed-eater and the weeds was wet from a dew.... I also was sweating bad, and got into poison ivy.

With the weeds wet and me sweating, The weeds just stuck all over my arms, and neck.... Later that day my throat swelled up.

I use ''Round-Up'' now!.... I used to have goats, and I didn't have a problem with poison ivy or poison oak.... They loved it!

I do go around on my ATV and cut the vines of poison oak in half that's on trees..... Wife's uncle told me the other day, That it's not good to burn poison ivy or p'-oak when you burn brush.

He said the smoke can shut your lungs down.... Has anyone heard that before ??

I'm an old geezer but mind is not completely gone and I don't recall every seeing poison ivy/oak other than in pictures. Maybe that's a good thing.

i'm hear to tell you, if you are allergic to it dont be around when its being burnt. i got a 3 day stay in the hospital because of that. in the lungs is no fun. if i get with in 10ft of it and the wind is just right i get it, i have got it from the dogs. so my wife takes care of it for me around here. just had PO on my legs and where i dont want it last weak.from weed eating the ditch.

I was terrorized by poison ivy all my life. I've had it EVERYWHERE way more times than I care to remember. Since moving to the Pacific Northwest 13+ years ago, I have not had it or anything like it. That's reason enough to never move back to RI if I needed a reason.
