Default locking fuel cap

Does anyone know where to get a locking fuel cap for my 6520?
hugs, Brandi

Oh Boy! That could be a tough one! I don't even recall what the fuel filler cap looks like on the 6520. I'd certainly call the dealer first and see what he has to say. Demand for such things must be increasing with diesel approaching $5/gallon. If he can't help, maybe call or email these folks:

eBay Store - Finney Equipment and Parts: FUEL CAPS: Caterpillar Excavator Locking Fuel Cap 0861781 E120 312

They seem to sell a lot of fuel caps for both light and heavy construction equipment. Maybe there is a way they can fit your Mahindra or at least point you in the right direction. Or if you are very lucky, there might even be some oddball car or truck fuel cap that will fit... just got to figure out which one.

But also keep in mind that it is very easy to steal fuel from a tractor with or without a locking filler cap. One cut hose or taking it right off the fuel filter drain is all it takes.

On the other hand, if you are more worried about potential vandalism of the Big Red Beast, that is a whole 'nother matter.

Yeah I've recently heard that locking gas caps aren't a good idea as they will just puncture the tank if they want the gas.

I recall that there was talk of a 7520 locking gas cap years ago. Not even sure if it was the same filler connection/location as the 6520 or had interchangeability with any other series... but I also recall that it never made it stateside. Could have been a spec error or could have been a last minute spec change. If it ever existed, it might only be available now as an M&M imported part. Perhaps Brenda or your special inside tech consultant guy would know.

Otherwise, I'd be down at the local Pep Boys ASAP with my fuel cap in hand trying to figure out the nearest fit!

Another thought from the construction side: Is it located/positioned such that a locking cover, strap or door can be added over top of the filler cap without it looking ridiculous?

Dougster,
Now that I think about it and looking at all the neat places on the Big RED Beast that could be vanalized, I need protection from vandals putting something into the tank or other opening. Long story short....I filed assault charges against my brother on Mother's day. Since my barn is unfinished with no doors, I will have to drive my tractor 1/4 mile through the thick woods to my neighbor's house to park it with their 5 large Husky type dogs. This will be a pain. But I feel nessacary when I leave the house for work at night.
hugs, Brandi

My tank has a drain plug about 24 inches off the ground. It is a flat ear, so maybe just two or three fingers could unscrew it and drain all the fuel. A locking gas cap only protects foreign object damage. Like sugar in the tank.

Actually extraneous crap added to the hydraulics would be a MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE piece of vandalism to have to deal with...

Sounds like you should consider adding video surveillance to your property...

You would at least have video evidence if there was vandalism done on your equipment, et al...

In Texas, is a "no-contact" order an automatic condition of a defendant's bond that will be ordered by the judge regarding a violent crime?
