With the cuts that are occurring now in corporate america...and the cuts that will occur next year in corporate america...the trickle down damage to the service sector is going to be close to catastrophic...DO NOT INCUR ANYMORE DEBT for personal items that are NOT ABSOLUTELY NEEDED and when it comes to business purchases, avoid anything that is related to the service sector...because it will not pay back for all of 2009 and most of 2010...

Recommended cash on hand needs to be between 6 weeks and 6 months depending on who is speaking...

Add to that the service sector has already been taking a hit for a numbers of years now in some sectors due to the cheap (quality) throwaway products, falling quality of replacement parts (multiple trips to the customer's home due to defective replacement parts at the servicer's expense) and parts availability issues. Also added to the troubles is the manufactures tightening the screws on warranty reimbursements to servicers, increased paper work often consuming as much time as the repairs and piss poor labor rates from the manufactures paid to the servicers for warranty work. (This is why some of the box stores will not touch a product as far as service if it is still under manufacture warranty.)

The result will be more small business closing (as if enough have not already) giving the large businesses/box stores that survive greater opportunity to say screw you due to lack of competition.

I try to keep the glass half filled aspect no matter how bad things look.
I do feel by January or February (basically once the new admin takes office) things will stabilize and show some positive news overall. Most of it is based on perception and fear/panic. That in itself has to be stopped for us to move forward and rebound. This comes from leadership being engaged and proactive. Its a perception thing - and I feel things will not be as bad as the doomsday Armageddon believers want everything to be -
Im sure there is personal gain to their "positive" message - no such thing as a hidden agenda

Just remember it is always darkest before it is pitch black...

This is just a couple of stories on the AP wire...

Analysts see Treasury plan weeding out weak banks- AP
Oil falls as investors eye weak demand- AP
GM temporarily idles 2 plants on slow demand- AP
Wal-Mart scaling back U.S. namesake store growth- AP

And there is no mention of the Hedge Funds that are tanking as we speak...

Also, the rise of BOY's TOYs for sale on The Craiglist and eBay...and the increasing number of no sales on eBay...

Well I see the oil prices slumping badly as a great thing - why? Venuzuela can no longer afford to be a pain in the ass. Iran is crying as well and since they have no industry other than oil, then thats a great thing too!
Opec cuts do nothing to raise the price - Dubai needs money to complete its splendor! As I mentioned many moons ago, the only thing that will bring the prices back to reality is a recession - which I dont fear at the least- been there, done that. It would be nice to see it all given back to those they have taken from us 4 or more years. I would like them to rebuild our auto industry which was sent into a tailspin because of the skyrocketing oil. Its karma and payback in a nice easy brutal blow - Im laughing my ass off, couldnt happen to a better bunch...

Here's simple my humble opinion. I see no need to keep any cash on hand. If the crap hits the fan, the value will drop quicker than a used condom. I see no need to stockpile food. Just keep some around, maybe a little more than usual, but I haven't gone crazy. I do however have plenty of weapons and ammo. That's all I need. By having enough firepower, I can acquire anything I need.
