Default Good explanation of forms of Gov

I'm not sure I'd call this political but this link does off up a decent explanation of the various forms of government the world has had over history.

    Just wild video

I've often wondered why history was not used as more of a guide as how to proceed into the future.

Then the scary thought crosses my mind that maybe the powers that be actually are using history as a guide.

For all of our sakes I hope it is ignorance of history although in the end we will still be going to the same place without a change in direction.

But at least with ignorance there is still a chance for enlightenment.

Some say 2012 will be the year for that crossroad. Others say that is when time will end.

Only time will tell I guess.

    Mickey,

Interesting video by the way. It covered some things that I had actually not thought about for a long time. Brought back memories of high school history and even grade school social studies class. (Back in grade school I thought the Roman Empire chapter of the book would never end.) Sometimes I think we should be required to go back and study things like that at an older age when we can understand and appreciate the lessons learned to a greater degree compared to when we were kids.

Yes, the Ensigns tended to lead a short life in that program. However, the top dogs were often right there with them. That brings to mind something that has been bantered about over the years along the lines of if the leaders had to fight the wars there would probably be a lot less fighting.

Imagine if there was a new law enacted in the Republic where all the company management for one month a year had to perform jobs of the lowest level employees? The same would go for high level government employees, congressman, senators, even the president and vice president of the US. For that month they would have to live on that level of income and in a small house or apartment. If they did not fully comply with the law they would forfeit a month of their normal income as a federal tax.

I think the public school systems have done a very poor job of teaching history and specifically US history for many years. Think much of that is due in part to the fact that schools for the most part have been dominated by one political point of view and it isn't those that know this country is a Republic and not a democracy.

Was it not T. Jefferson that said something like "Government governs best when it governs least".

Was listening to Savage yesterday, something I don't do often, and he had a caller wanting to discuss the just passed kids health care bill. Savage asked the caller "where in the constitution does it require me to pay for someone else's health care. The response, "Oh!, you're one of those strict constructionist." In my book, far too many feel like this. Only need to follow follow the supreme law of the land when it suits me. Shee!

Actually the beauty of our Constitution is that you can do just about anything that is NOT specifically prohibited...A much slicker system than one that spells out...I have found that, in general, strict constructionists tend to want to LIMIT INDIVIDUAL'S FREEDOMS...

    Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Think we're going to have to disagree regarding you position.

The founding Fathers gave us a Republic where the central Government has restricted powers. Please look at Article I Section 8 which lists the power the legislative Branch of government has.

Some were not satisfied that the constitution placed adequate restrictions against the central government and proposed the first 12 amendments which 10 were adopted. They became know as the Bill of Rights. All 10 of these amendments are restrictions placed upon the Fed Government.

If I'm reading you right, you are placing the wrong meaning to the 10th amendment. This is placing restrictions upon the Fed Government, reserving rights and responsibilities NOT specifically given the to the Fed Government to the states and individuals i.e. people.

We just had the Supreme's rule this past year in the case concerning the 2nd amendment and the court ruled the the use of the word "people" as used in the constitution and the "Bill of Rights" were individuals and not a collective group.

IMO the Gov can't act in areas where specific athority has not been given. Herein lies the difference and problems between the political left and right. The left thinks the gov can do about anything it wants if the majority agrees. The right typ believes there are limits to gov power and those limits are codified in the constitution. This was at the heart of the Federist papers, strong centeral Gov Vs a weaker, limited Gov.

Think this thread may be dead but. Ran across a couple links this morning about possible legislation in Az and NH about the fact the Fed Gov has been operating outside the parameters of the US Constitution.

Both states sighting the 9th and 10th amendments and fact they have not surrendered their Sovereignty to the Fed's and are demanding the Fed's cease and desist from its unconstitutional actions.

Both political parties have been guilty of this.

Link to Az legislation: Format Document

Link to NH legislation: HCR 0006

Neither of these items are going to change anything in D.C. but I'd sure like to see something like this wind it way up the court chain and end up in the US Supreme Court. Could be surprised if it did and the majority saw the challenge in the same way they did this past year over the meaning of the 2nd amendment.
