Default The election

How many of you caught the speech last night? My take was Obama's presentation was top notch as usual. The problem I saw was it mostly contained the typ Democrat positions. Far too much time spent on attacking McCain in place of putting meat on the bones for his proposals and that is what is needed to get the undecided.

Looks like McCain took the wind out of Obama's sail this AM with his announcement. It was planned this way and I think we'll see it is getting as much or more coverage than Obama will receive today. Way too early to know but initially I don't see a problem for the selection. From what I've heard/read today she does seem to be a tough cookie and not afraid to make waves and lop off a few heads. Time will tell. One thing I did note in watching the announcement was the makeup of the audience. Seemed to be a bunch of working class people and a lot more reserved the what I saw in Denver this week.

because of her record, short, but very effective, I think McCain made a brilliant move by picking her. This effectively ends the same old boys club mentality...

Yup, I'm looking forward to watching the news tonight and this weekend to see what the mainstream media has to say about it.

She has had such an illustrious career..that they had room to include the following in her Wikipedia entry...

Palin attended Wasilla High School in Wasilla, Alaska, where she was the head of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at the school and the point guard and captain of the school's basketball team. She helped the team win the Alaska small-school basketball championship in 1982, hitting a critical free throw in the last seconds of the game, despite having an ankle stress fracture at the time.

At the end of her mayorship, Palin was behind the construction of the Wasilla Multi-Use Sports Complex, a $15 million multi-use indoor ice arena, as her legacy. However, developer Gary Lundgren acquired the land before Palin could. Without the deed, Palin decided to build the arena there anyway, and attempted to acquire the land through eminent domain(This sure sounds like a traditional democrat to me...), but a federal appeals court ruled in favor of Lundgren. The case is in the process of being resolved in the courts. It will cost Wasilla at least an additional $1.67 million to acquire the land and Wasilla is still attempting to cover the budget shortfall by cutting library services, postponing capital improvement projects, and raising fees.
This little footnote of her view of private property should cause people to pause, ARE YOU SURE SHE'S A REPUBLICAN???

I suppose it was a good move to try and pull in some Hillary wavering fans to win the election.

Personally I would have been much more comfortable with Fred Thomson or Mitt Romney once in office. Will be interesting to see how she is received on an international level especially by the Arab and Asian nations.

Fred Thomson would be a favorite of mine but Fred is adverse to campaigning, our loss.

I did notice yesterday the initial response from the DEM was very neg but later in the day comments from Obama and Biden took a turn for the better.

While Palin is short on experience time wise, everything I read/heard yesterday, she is not short on backbone and shaking things up even to the point of taking on members of her party. Sold off the state corp jet, vetoing more than 300 bills with special interest provisions, raising tax on oil Co's and then returning the excess revenue to the tax payers.

She has a BA in communication and journalism and from her speech yesterday, I think she will be able to do well in the campaign. She does present a problem for the Dem's being a woman and age/experience not that different from Obama's, taking on the oil Co's, raising taxes them and then lowering taxes on the populous is not out of line with what Obama would like to do. She has actually accomplished change and is the only person on both tickets with any executive experience.

We'll see in the coming days & weeks.

I'm starting to warm up to Palin. She's a lifetime NRA member.

Here's a snipit from an NRA article:

"To put it simply, Gov. Sarah Palin would be one of the most pro-gun vice-presidents in American history, and Joe Biden would definitely be the most anti-gun."

I warmed up a little more again tonight to Sara. She mentioned our town here in Ohio in her speech.

Now for a little quiz to see who was paying attention. Did anyone catch it?

Hint: Lt. Col. / P.O.W.

Wait a minute now. Did they mention the term P.O.W. at the RNC?

...Oh yea, that's right - every 30 seconds!

It was said the other day, they will remind people that neither Biden nor Obama have ever served and I believe this is the reason for bringing it up so many times,, They also showed a fellow POW from Ohio last night.,.
