Come-on guys, it's not what you were thinking.

The wife and I went out shopping today and all was going well until .

Was sitting at an intersection when out of nowhere all hell broke loose and in a another second, it happened again. Was hit hard enough I hit the car in front of us. Got out and took a look, rear bumper damaged. Went up front and it looked like the car in front wasn't damaged but at the min my front Lic plate was smashed. The gal that hit us had some excuse about trying to make room for some other car to get in behind her. I told her, her responsibility was to keep a safe distance to the car in front of her not make room for some other car.

Got over to the side and I wasn't exactly a happy camper. I tried holding my cool but was very firm in my temperament. She went scurrying through all her stuff and couldn't find her DL nor insurance card. She wrote her name, address and DL number and insurer on a piece of paper. When she was done I asked to see her DL and she wasn't too happy and for sure she didn't like my addressing her a Mame. Asked if I was a cop, I said no but my BIL was one close by and I could call him if she would like. She still wasn't too happy but found her DL but didn't want me to touch it. Pulled it away from me once. I didn't know her from Adam well Eve in this case. I wasn't about to accept what she had written down without verifying.

I freely offered my DL and insurance card, handing both to her. As I started to pull away she was trying to tell the wife what happened and saying something about my attitude.

Have gotten it turned into my and her insurance Co's. She's got Allstate and seem like they do their own assessment. Funny, had to make an appoint to see their claim adjuster and I asked for their phone number if something came up. The Allstate rep I was speaking to said they don't have the claims office's phone number. What the Hell! For sure I'm going to get a couple estimates to compare their assessment.

So!, Mrs Lincoln, other than that, how was your day?

    Mickey-

Hopefully the driver you subsequently hit will not get "whiplash" as a result of you being rear ended. These situations can get complicated. I do not trust any casualty insurance company, no one wants to pay. My wife always complains how I spend considerable driving time watching my rearview mirror (you do not have to ask why.). Good luck and I hope you and your wife do not feel any aches and pains later. Jay

PS: Did anyone's airbags go off?

Something like this in my opinion should have had the Cops there - and verifying ID's and such....Glad you are safe and unharmed (family too)
Its just a car in the end - can be replaced.....the rest cant

When in an accident always call for Fire/Rescue to have yourself evaluated on the scene...because by definition...that means the police will come and make out a full report...Much easier dealing with insurance companies if there is a police report...

    Liability
    Or
Do not want to pay deductible
There is no reason to talk to there insurance.
You file with your insurance pay deductable and provide all info on who and what happend.
They should have a building full of lawyers to get there money back.

Mother had this trouble awhile back. claimed repairs where less than deductable.
Other person had some fly by night insurance.
Well after about a two month nightmare they shorted the repair check. The repairs where very poor. Nothing can be done now.

If she had paid her deductable her insurance would have taken care of the whole problem and stood behind the repairs.

    Oh well live and learn.

    Into the lions den..........

The car in front said all was OK and drove off. I don't know them and they don't know me.

This was a smaller accident than some are thinking. We're in a parking lot at a shopping center. I doubt the driver that hit me was going more than about 5mph. She just wasn't paying attentions to what she should have.

In addition to the damage I was PO'd over the fact the wife and I had a softdrink in our hands and it got split over us and some of the interior.

Looking at it from the other driver standpoint, she was a middle aged woman, I was likely comming across pretty hard. When she couldn't come up with her DL or insurance paperwork and started writing it down and knew her DL number by heart, it just gave me the impression she was trying to hide something. Not wanting me to touch her DL when she did find it just added to the distrust. When we parted I did wish her a safe journey home.

The only lingering item is her insurance Co and the fact they want you to have them do the estimating on the damage and they couldn't even give me a phone number for the local claims office and fact the appointment made is still 10 days away.

If she had resisted more in showing me her DL and insurance card, I would have had the wife call her brother and ask if he could come and assist in the sharing of info. Thinking back, where the shopping center is located, it may be just beyond the boarder of his district. But it did change the woman's action some when I said I could call the BIL.

Who has their driver's license number in memory? Certainly would set off a flag to me too.

Heck, I'm lucky to remember my 6 digit plate number that I've had for at least 5 years. I've even thought about paying extra for a vanity plate for only that reason.

That's the really bad part about accidents on private property especially parking lots. Even the local law enforcements hands become somewhat tied in those cases at least here.

Absolutly Mark on the knowing your DL # by heart. Don't know what brought on her comment about asking if I was a cop. Do think saying my BIL was a local cop and I would call if she liked did make some difference in her willingness to look further for her paperwork.
