Default Any signs of Spring?

Been a tough year for many parts of the country but was wondering if anyone was seeing signs of a early spring? Saw someone mention a week or two go about starting to receive spring seed catalogs and I've received a couple.

There are signs of an early spring around here. One thing that usually indicates is, we'll have some nice weather, fruit trees will start leafing out and blooming, then a cold spell will hit us and no fruit come summer.

Daffies have been up for some time and are now about 4" tall. Have an azalea about ready to bloom but this is a strange plant as I've seen it in bloom over the year end holidays. Our first bulbs to bloom are snow bells and bloom in early Feb and I see they are on schedule. Yesterday I noted several bunches of crocus in bloom out by the road. Noticed last week one of the stores in town has 4-5 varieties of planted bulbs being offered and Costco was offering young fruit trees for sale last week.

Weather has also been warmer than normal this past week. Has been in the 50's this week with one day hitting 58.

Don't mind spring coming early as long as we don't have a late frost that kills the fruit blossoms.

Spring ?????????

Christmas is just a few weeks over and it is still January where I am and you are talking about Spring ??

Is it because as you get older time flies faster ??

I want and need time to slow down as I have too much still left to accomplish.

So, no Mickey, I have not seen any signs of spring yet and while I wouldn't mind spring time weather, I do not want spring to spring upon me that quickly.

Have a good one

The birds certainly are not acting like Spring around here yet. Around here the first signs of Spring are the guys setting up their sugar houses and tapping trees and the returning turkey vultures.

No signs of spring here, but I wish it was spring... But it is Mud SeaSon here right now.... I've been hearing that February will be a cold and snowy month.

We don't start seeing any signs of spring until April... Back in 93 at the end of March we got over 2FT of snow in 24 hours.

We also have frost up to about May 10TH, and every year I work hard trying to protect the blooms on my apple, cherry, peach, pears, & plum trees, and my blackberry, raspberry and blueberry bushes.

We don't plant anything in the garden that the frost will hurt until May 15TH.

Maybe global warming is hitting the PNW. On Axmen the first episode they were talking about the 105° temps we had for a week this past summer.

Don't mind the spring showing up but know fer sure we will have a cold snap in the March, April time frame.

There have been years where I was breaking ground in the garden in Feb. If one is lucky, cool weather crops can be planted at that time.

I sure hope it is around the corner, supposed to rain Sunday/Monday. Our tire chains for the 1635 are still in the garage, in the box, and will not bother us if we do not get to try them this year.

Thanks,

Will

Well.....I ran the AC in my truck when I made my weekly run to the feed store yesterday. It was showing 81F. Here it's Mud Season as well and I've spent the last few days leveling out ruts and starting a new fenceline. When I built my new hay shed last summer I built up the floor inside but didn't do anything to the ground in front. The shed is E-W and shades the area in front of it from the sun in the winter (duh). Daily traffic taking hay out has turned the area into a real bog. Adding two loads of bank sand to the bog made it worse initially but now it's firming up and I can move a load of hay in this afternoon. January - May (Spring) in this part of SE Texas means decent temps, regular rain, and butt-deep mud.

A good sign of spring not being too far off is that heating oil prices are finally starting to drop here in Southeastern MA and Rhode Island... finally!
