Default It's that time once again

Today is opening day for the annual Great Oregon Steamup. Boys and family are coming down and some of us are heading over for a few hrs. Believe this is the 40th yr for the steamup.

Granddaughter wants to go and I'm sure she wants to ride the mini-trains. Maybe even the trolley. We've got to train them early and I think we did a pretty good job a couple yrs back. (see pic)

The weather gods are looking favorable on us as the warm/hot weather is taking a break today and predicting mid-70's.

Will be taking the camcorder with me today as I'd like to get some moving shots of some of the activities. (Now if I just had that bluray burner I was thinking about in another thread I could burn some copies. )

Here are a couple pics from previous yrs.
A HEER 4wh drive (note chain front drive)
Home made ice cream (using steam power)
Rumley oil-pull (1800 cu in 2 cyl engine)

Sounds like a great time Mickey!!!

Very nice pictures!.....My wife would like to have pic#3 for making ice cream!

Now I would like to have the ''Massey-Harris 4WD''!.... That would be great when pulling my logs for firewood!!!

Thanks for sharing!, and hope you get more pictures!.... (I'll have to wait until week after next to see them... Leaving tomorrow night to go camping/fishing!)

    Mickey,
Where in Oregon is this? I wanna make it one day. I have relatives in Eugene that are begging me to come up and visit. They would like too. I love seeing the steam tractors work on RFD-TV.

Thanks for the replies guys (& gal ) Turned out to be a great day. mid to high 70's with a slight breeze and the trees are getting mature providing a lot of shade.

Boy, is this place growing. 2 new buildings and something like 7 museums on site now. Got there about noon and the parking lot was full, approx 10A field. This yrs featured brand was IH. And for some reason a big gathering of older Fords/Massey's. Newest building complete was for the car/motorcycle museum. Oldest car on display was a 1910 IH. Still original and made a lap in the parade. A building for JD almost complete and without a building is a section featuring logging operations. A pleasant surprise was all the kids running the tractors in the parade and at least half were girls. Looks like there will be another generation for carrying on with preserving and showing this old equipment.

Bill, are you serious about wanting a higher resolution copy of the ice cream machinery? I have about a half doz different ones. Let me know and we can do something to make it happen. Long line for ice cream cones yesterday and they had 2 different machines running.

Brandi, The Steam-up is held in Brooks, about 10 mi N of Salem and about half mi W of I5. Steam-up is last weekend in July and first weekend in Aug. There is a off-ramp at Brooks, just go W. Can't miss the Antique Powerland grounds.

Come last weekend in Aug (4 wks away) is the annual truck show. It's a freebe

Bill, see any cls C like this in your area? And could you use this truck to your logging needs? Bet this pickum up is bigger than yours.

No still pics yesterday but did shot about 45 min of video. I do have more than 100 pic of this event from different yrs.

    Mickey:

I like the red Peterbilt pickup. It makes my F-250 Super Duty look petite.

The blue truck in picture number 3; is that an Autocar?

    mickey:
that looks like fun, i really like the peterbuild camper.we i was a kid they would have a fair in bridge water VA. my ungle would set up his stream power sawmill. their would be all kinds of stream power things their. they would have tractor pulls with nothing but steel wheels aloud.
nothing like around here. the fair here have become a money grab for the towns and have lost track of what a fair should be.

Cool! Around 1910, my maternal grandfather had one very similar to the one in the picture for his livestock/butcher business in Fremont, Nebraska.

His had solid rubber tires, single rear wheels, and they were spoke wheels all around.

I'd post a picture; but it's at my Mom's house.

Nice there is some interest here.

Have posed the link before but will do so again. Antique Powerland Antique Powerland Home Page

One can spend hrs on this site. MANY pictures available and info on the various museums on site.

If you have Google Earth you can search for "Antique Powerland, oregon" and get a birds eye view. The image is 5 yrs old and lot of changes since then.

    Mickey,
So Brooks is between Portland and Eugene? I would have to fly into Portland and rent a car.
