Question Battery Life of a Undersized Battery

I purchased a very used/abused, but running John Deere 455 (diesel) GT this winter. It has started readily with preheating with a LT sized 12 volt battery (~300 CCA) until recently. Now it needs a boost charge to start (with preheating). The standard 455 battery is a Group 51 12 volt with 470 CCA. I suspect I fried (and/or warped the plates of) the smaller LT battery with all the preheats. I would desire any input as to what else to check out.

BTW here is a pic. There is always a long, long story behind every picture. My "modifications" only used spare, left over wood, and the shell of a shipping crate.

Might be time to invest in new glow plugs Jay.??

Not sure if this is the same as other set ups.. check if the GPs are getting power from a relay.. might be as simple as a bad relay. if the relay is good, see if you can remove a glow plug and inspect it for excessive heat damage.

I should read more carefully.. For some reason I thought you were saying it was hard to start even with a boost..

Yes... small dogs and children too!

The real motivation for "The Box" was I needed some way to collect the chips from my new Wallenstein BXM32 Chipper/Shredder (and use that well built shipping crate). The original fabric/metal frame for that cart was pretty beat up. Originally no boards or leftover plywood were even measured nor cut (for the "prototype") just a lot of screws. Even with the new and improved model there was very little "measuring"; some cutting- just a lot of screws. I really managed to clean up the basement from all my leftover wood scraps To make my "creation" even better is that it seems to work , but SCA/SWMBO still won't let me drive along the roadside. Maybe I should ad some signage?

I replaced the 3 (2 were shot) preheaters and alternator belt. I guess I need to use the ol' multimeter to check the charging system/battery today. That RayOVac battery looks like it would work real well.

Usually have too much junk (for appearances); I would have to clean it out . It's an image thing .

Actually the Tundra is a little large to get into some of the areas I can put both the John Deere and the NH with chipper/shredder together for processing and collection. It still means I have always walk back to the "processing" area
