In my opinion, used machines MUST be viewed/inspected in person and physically operated to ascertain condition and value. As you know, I am dirt poor and could easily burn out my whole equipment budget on air travel alone.

One of the remarkable facts (to me) is how few of the better machines listed are actually and truly available for sale with an owner/seller who will call you back!!! Try it sometime. I'd love to know if it is just me (maybe I have a reputation? ) or if everyone gets the same treatment.

Saturday morning update: With no decent used KX91-3's to be found at a delivered price I can afford... and with new machine price quotes leaving me breathless... it is starting to look like this machine: a 3-year old Yanmar VIO35-3 with 900 hours... is going to be the new Dougster Industries mini-excavator. It ain't a done deal yet, but it's getting awfully close. Technical and maintenance status issues could be resolved today... restoration and upgrade costs by Monday. Stay tuned!

That's the cab model Tim... the one that's available for me to buy is the canopy model... but yes, that's the funny little beast!

I hate the Yanmar color scheme and those cheap decals they use that peel right off. I may paint it orange instead and throw some Kubota decals on it so people will think I'm successful and rich!!!

Think I could get away with it???

I wouldn't paint it anything but brushed silver, or maybe brushed pewter,, Anything else (where you live) is considered a non issue... Might as well paint it pewter then tell the neighbors this is a joint venture test machine from BMW and Mercedes... The phone will probably ring off the hook then.

"this morning I woke up with nothing to do, it is now afternoon and I have over half of it done".
Digging in hard clay is more relaxing to a worm than going fishing..

Ha!!! Around here, the status symbol in mini-excavators has got to be either CAT Yellow (for the construction guys with the thick gold chains) or Kubota Orange (for the yuppie, environmentally sensitive landscaping guys).

Silver screams of "used, re-painted, former rental machine"... which, of course, is what I may be buying.

That might be the best theft deterrent yet......implying it is a former rental machine...

I may be dirt poor... but let's keep that our dirty little secret! Let's make my potential customers think I am as financially successful and loaded as Paul C! That way I don't have to post any bonds!

Late Saturday update: Some technical issues getting resolved. Some issues not. Monday morning, I return to the local Yanmar dealer for more parts/upgrade availability and cost data from the owner. Monday afternoon, I return to the seller's warehouse for further inspection, testing and resolution of a couple last critical issues. If things go well, I could own the machine by Wednesday. If things don't go well, it's back to eBay, Craigslist, Machine Trader and a dozen other websites.
