Default Grey market Yanmar 1200 small excavator

So far I haven't been able to find parts or manuals. Is a 2 cyl diesel. Assume engine could be replaced with a 'legal' model but need to do a compare or get info prior to spending big $. Can anyone help with info? thanks

Wow! I don't think that's going to be easy. I'm not familiar with that model at all... I can't even find a photo or mention of it on Google... and I have enough trouble getting parts for my "modern" VIO35-3. Hoye Tractor will probably be useless... but I might give them a call anyway. After they finish screaming at you for calling about something other than a Yanmar tractor, maybe they know of someone who can help.

Wow Dougster! Never had a problem with Hoye before. They have researched some very rare orphan models and provided positive leads that, eventually, located what I needed. Hoye also has an import yard in Ohio where the keep their heavier equipment like excavators...

herc93, Typically, Yanmar attaches a small aluminum/green specifications tag on, or near the back of the valve cover. Copy those numbers (and letter) designations and you'll find a prefix 2 or 3 to indicate the engine number (i.e. 2T90). Like Dougster, I am not familiar with the model number 1200 but that does not exclude the availability of parts once the engine number is located. As Yanmar supplies hundreds of engines to many different brands (like Takeuchi etc.) a sharp dealer may be able to cross reference an engine to your application.

Good luck,

Mark

Please don't misunderstand Mark. I understand that Hoye is a tremendous resource for folks with gray market Yanmar Tractors. I was unaware of any involvement with construction machines, but I'll take your word for it.

Perhaps I just caught them on a few off days... or perhaps things have changed... but I came away each time I called with the distinct and unmistakable impression that they had no other focus but gray market Yanmar tractors. Not only were they unwilling to help me out with any other (i.e., non-gray market tractor) Yanmar documents or parts, but they were extremely rude about it each time I called.

Hmm' OP hasn't been back to check out the banter.

I do wonder how much of a deal it would take to be a great deal? Say you find a beauty, now make owning that rare older machine (with even rarer parts supplies) a joy, instead of a headache, or worse..a lawn ornament.

.... Tim

It kinda reminds me of when I was shopping for my mini-ex and came across an old "Airman" brand mini-ex in great shape and at an outstanding cash price... but what about parts? I couldn't find any Airman dealers in the USA. Heck, I could barely find any other new or used Airman mini-excavators in the USA. And even though there was some indication that Airman was currently (in 2007) making several Deere mini-ex units for sale in the USA, there was no guarantee at all that Deere would help me find older Airman mini-ex parts.

Herc983,

The 2TR20 (and 2TR20A) is a very common, and one of the most popular, well supported engines used in the YM2000 grey market and YM240 domestic Yanmar tractors. Honestly don't know what the "L" indicates in the engine I.D. sequence, but chances are very good a complete swap, or rebuild parts are likely available.

I believe one of the best and most knowledgable grey market dealers in this country is Len Sheaffer ( Sheaffer town and country tractor www.sheaftractor.net -) and would know more about your machine then anyone else available here in the U.S..
